Fans travelling by rail for the MK Dons game

Travelling by rail to get to the MK Dons game yesterday was a mare.

No trains from the south got past Preston, in fact a lot of folk on trains didn't even know they were going to have to leave their train until it arrived at Preston.

I was only travelling from Southport.....by bus to Preston, then train to Morecambe. I normally leave v.early so I can have a pint or three pre-match, but we lost our electricity late on Friday night, and it wasn't restored until 0900ish yesterday morning. So, having checked the train situation was ok online I didn't leave home until 1130.

I got the bus to Preston arriving at 1215. When I walked into Preston train station it was chaos, with a lot of bad tempers. I quickly realised that getting to Morecambe by train wasn't going to happen.

A bloke in Shrimps colours, with a southern accent collared me. He said he'd travelled from Chelmsford, this being his first ever home game, and he was almost in tears! I thought right, let's leg it to Preston bus station, and we might be lucky.

10 minutes frog march later we got to the bus station with 5 minutes to spare to catch the 1235 No.41 Staecoach bus to Morecambe.

There were several like minded MK Dons fans on that bus too.

To cut a long story short, we arrived at The Mazuma at 1445. My thoughts were, I wonder what the return journey home's going to be like!

And didn't he choose a classic to come to?!?!? Definitely in tears by the end of the game    Poor bloke.

That sounds like quite a journey just to get from Scouseport, let alone Milton Keynes or Chelmsford!

So how did that work out then?

Me and my friends left Blackpool on the 10.03 train yesterday morning and finally arrived at the Mazuma at 15.10 (5 hours 7 minutes)

Going back was a little bit better leaving Morecambe at 18.13 arriving back in Blackpool at 20.50 (2 hours 37 minutes)

Real shame to be let down by the players who yesterday put in a very inept performance

Personally the worst goal of the four was the third one - Mk Dons player totally unmarked from a corner which is totally unacceptable (this came just after we had about four corners in a row and were just getting on top)

Ah well short journey to Buxton on the 4th then a long trip to Portsmouth on the 11th - just hope the weather behaves otherwise could be in for two more horrible train journeys

Hmm... while difficult to argue with that logic, especially as this is something we keep on & on doing, for me the fourth was the worst. Completely and utterly switched off to the quick free-kick. At bear minimum, stand by the ball long enough to stop a quick free-kick (which is something I hate, and think refs should clamp down on, but never do) and stay focussed on the job in hand.

I think all 4 goals were equally awful in different ways.

Did you notice that when the MK players went down they grabbed the ball making the referee choose either a handball or a foul and she chose foul every time ! We must learn from that !

If I hadn't legged it to Preston bus station from the train station when I did I'd have missed the last possible bus to get to the game. Tbh I felt really sorry for the bloke from Chelmsford, and felt a bit obliged to try and help him get to the game.....which we did. Goodness knows what time he got home on Saturday night.

Yep, I noticed online that the 1731 from Morecambe train station had been cancelled. Though the 1813 was still shown as 'running' I'd simply lost all trust in trains for the day. I decided to leg it from the game just after 1630 [0-3 down]. Fortunately, I just managed to catch a 6A bus from outside the ground to Lancaster bus station, and then got the 1730 No.41 to Preston. Had to hang around Preston bus station for 35 minutes [awful bus station after dark on a Saturday], and got a bus to Southport, arriving home just after 2000, so not too bad.

Agree.....there must have been better things to do on Saturday afternoon, but we do it, and no doubt we'll all do it again. ;)
