They plan to get round the points deduction by saying it is the parent company that has gone into administration not the FC.

And it's highly unlikely they will get away with it.

Hardly. As the article says Gillingham is one of the clubs the PFA has had to cover the wages for. Despite selling their ground they are still owe over £4 million to a range of banks and in the year to May 2008 lost £1.654 million on top of losses of £1.1 million in 2007 and £0.995 million in 2006. With little or no assets to fall back on Gillingham (credit rating 3 out of 100) are in an appalling financial situation and are in serious danger of falling into administration.

Which is why I support points deductions for teams who do go into administration. It's simply not a level playing field when the Gills owe loads of money, have their wages propped up and are allowed to sign players. They're spending beyond their means, and should be forced to tighten their belts. Their place near the top of the league is inflated because they're spending more than they can afford.

Sod the fans of the clubs affected by the deductions - what about the fans of clubs who miss out because of the clubs that over step the mark?

So it does! Even more surprising, then, that their chairman should make those comments!

Brilliant post CD. Couldn't agree more. All this "It's not fair on the fans" rubbish is misplaced. They support a cheating club, which is to the detriment of fans of clubs who are living within their means.

As Gillinghams credit rating has been brought up by Mr. Posh, I found this on their fans forum. Not surprising they are concerned with a 3/100 rating! We are second with 95/100 :D

Quite.

It's a little like many years ago when Kidderminster were denied promotion because they hadn't completed the necessary ground improvements.

They bleated about that but other clubs pointed out that THEY had spent lots of money undertaking the improvements that ALL clubs had been told were compulsory. That meant they couldn't spend as much as Kiddy had done on players.

Not much sympathy for Kiddy after all that was pointed out.
Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

His comment is amusing about the "smaller" clubs being in the top 6 (aiming at us, Barnet and Macclesfield), when on the field these HUGE teams expect to beat the likes of us

Darlo owe £3500 to a hotel looking after Liam Hatch, sound like he's being pampered. Wonder if Danny gets the same treatment
