Whinging Richie Wellens “ We Were Beaten In The Warm Up” O/T

Speaking after the game, Richie Wellens says a poor start before kick-off laid the precedent.

“The attitude was poor from the start, if we stay humble, do the basics right, listen, and take out onto the pitch what we’ve worked on then we’re alright, we’ll pick up results in this league. But when players decide to drift off and do whatever they want to do then that’s what we got served up.

“I’ve never watched our warm-up but I watched it today because our changing rooms, obviously they’ve moved them, so you can see the warm-up. Our warm-up I’m not happy with at all.

“I said to Warren Joyce when they came in if the game was won on the warm-up, we’re already beat, it was a shambles so I’ll be looking into that. The game started off pretty much as what I’d seen in the warm-up.

All managers are (obviously) more focused on talking about their own teams, but from the couple of times I've dropped in on Richie Wellens giving an interview I would say he's particularly tunnel visioned.

Harrogate's manager Simon Weaver is someone I have a lot of time for - I think how he's coached a lot of players from non-league into the EFL has been superb. I like a lot of things about how he has Harrogate playing, and I think their main issue is in large down to a slight lack of proper final third quality in his squad. They had a lad on loan from Sunderland last season who gave them a lot in that department.

His view of the game today was that they played relatively well but lacked composure, and that we were better in both boxes, which I think is fair as we handled their set piece threat superbly and had a few clinical moments slicing through them, particularly early on.
