Pre-season friendlies--- what a waste of ------

Never have been and never will be interested in pre-season friendlies. I fully understand that players need to get fit and try and gain a better understanding of each other, but going to watch them is a bit like going to a restaurant and not eating, and why do supporters get so worked up about the results. If you win one of the games you are world beaters, yet lose one and the sky is going to fall in. The last friendly i went to was the opening of the North Stand v Southampton, but like i said earlier i'm not interested, the results mean nothing, and the players/management know that, i just wish some of the supporters did. Roll on the 9th.

If the supporters "realised" it nobody would go to pre-season frindlies and games like Lancaster City v Morecambe, Barnet v Arsenal, Exeter v Portsmouth would go out of the window because their main purpose is to make money for their smaller neighbouring club. There are alot of positive aspects about friendlies, even though the result means nothing. Stonehenge is just a pile of rocks but people still go to have a look at it.

I like pre season friendlies.

After 3 months or so without football I can't wait to get back to watching games and getting a first look at the new signings. It also gives you a chance to see us play some teams we may not usually get to play against (Wolves, Blackburn, Preston etc) and its also nice to re-visit some old non league grounds that we aren't likely to play at very often in the future such as Barrow.

It's also nice to watch a game and enjoy it for what it is, rather than getting worked up for 90 minutes over the result!

For me it's not just about the football. I look forward to seeing everybody and discussing the coming season, the new players and what roll they might play and catching up on all the gossip *cough*! This is also the time of season I seek Ockers out and have a little strop about his "secret weapon" thread.......... I've kind of missed that this year. Also, it's nice to welcome some of the new lads to the club and point CC to them

I like friendlies because you get to play teams you havnt player for a while or prob won't play them in a normal game for a while e.g. Lancaster City also you can stand on the car wash

Trust me they were on the ball on Saturday in the North stand,

"you can't stand on that step, its an even number" or something like that

The stewards were a bit keen.
My young un dared to 'breach' the yellow line area right at the front - I can understand it if we were full to bursting - but when the place is nearly empty

I agree and disagree.

I DO see the point in friendlies and I enjoy seeing the new players, meeting up with some people who I only really see at football and just generally getting back into the swing of football again.

But I do agree that results are irrelevant.

I just wish some of the so-called pundits and football writers would remember that when they report on England friendlies - as well as people who try to read too much into friendly games performances and results (good or bad).
