O/T - Charity Challenge

O/T - Charity Challenge

Postby The Bay » Tue Dec 14, 2010 8:11 pm

Hi all,

In January, I'm preparing to hit the road on a 3,000 mile football-themed challenge, all in the name of The Bay's Charity of The Year.

Myself, along with members of my sports team are undertaking the mammoth trip for three and a half days from January 10th. The plan is to brave the winter weather and drive to all 92 Premier and Football League grounds, as well as other local non-league clubs, and Wembley, Twickenham and the Millennium Stadium - that's 100 in total - all in just 80 hours or less.

We hope to raise thousands of pounds for local charity CancerCare, who do excellent work to support sufferers and their families and carers across the North West. We’ll be on the road for at least 20 hours a day (meaning we’ll have to sleep in the car), covering around 800 miles a day and taking in almost 30 clubs each day. As well as stopping at each stadium for a souvenir picture, we’ll be collecting memorabilia from each club that will then be auctioned off after the challenge has been completed to raise more cash for the cause.

We’ll be starting at the Globe Arena, and then we're travelling anti clockwise zig-zagging round England and Wales, before hopefully getting back to Morecambe before 80 hours has elapsed. 100 stadiums in just over 3 days will be very tough, but we're determined to succeed. We'll be driving in shifts and won't get much sleep, but it will all be worth it. Hopefully the Sat Nav will hold out! I know 92 clubs has been done in 92 hours, but as far as I know 100 in 80 would be a new record, which if we succeed we hope to get officially recognised.

So, this is where I ask for your help! It would be great if people could spare anything to donate to the challenge, no matter how small, it all adds up and will make such a difference to such a great charity. I know there’s only a few days until Christmas, but I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t for a such a brilliant cause. As some of you’ll know I’m not exactly built for marathon running (plus it’s cold in winter!), so thought this would be suitably tough.

Pledges can be made to a dedicated Justgiving page,at www.justgiving.com/thebay, or in writing by cheque (payable to CancerCare) or cash, to The Bay P.O Box 969, St Georges Quay, Lancaster, LA1,3LD. Donations can also be handed into our reception during office hours. You can also drop me a line to dave.salmon@cnradio.co.uk

Every penny counts, so thanks so much if you can help!

Cheers all,

Dave.

A brilliant idea and one hell of a challenge.
I will definitely throw in some sponsorship money.

When we did ours (a bit smaller than yours);

we collected momentos from each club we visited and raised money by selling it all on ebay!

Good luck, speak to you next time at the Globe.

O/T - Charity Challenge

BUMP!

Hi guys,

We're leaving on Monday morning. I'm on the scrounge for sponsorship now- I know it's January and we're all skint but if you could spare any pennies at all I'd be really grateful, as it's for a brilliant cause.

Why not have a whip round at work or among friends? I want to raise a significant sum, and plenty has already been pledged, but your help would be really appreciated.

I will of course be able to provide photographic proof we did it!

So then, you can go to www.justgiving.com/thebay, or come and see me on the press concourse at the Torquay match (you can't miss me, I'm the bald one with glasses). Or PM me and I'll give you my number and we can meet up.

Many thanks guys, all the best,

Dave Salmon. :)

Hi all,

Just an update.... we completed the challenge off 100 stadiums in just under four days - 95 hours and 37 minutes - covering 2852 miles in the process with only 10 hours sleep throughout.

We left the Globe at 9am on Monday and got back there at 8.37am on Friday.

Thank you so much for your support - if you'd like to donate (to CancerCare) please visit http://www.justgiving.com/thebay

You can look at the pictures of our trip here.....

Thanks again,
